The Bronze Age in China, encompasing the Shang (c.1600BC-1050BC) and Zhou (c.1046-256) dynasties, was a high point in ancient Chinese civilisation, setting in place many of the social, literary and artistic conventions for which China is famous. Bronze and jade working in particular reached spectacular levels of skill and design, producing some of the most fascinating objects being made anywhere in the world at that time. This lecture will explore the world of the Chinese Bronze Age, and some of the incredible sites and beautiful objects that characterise it.

Qin Cao is a DPhil student at the University of Oxford, researching weaponry in the Chinese Shang Dynasty.
